The children were encouraged to go to school in their most favorite book character, and to bring along that story book. It was a happy news for me as that meant more DIY costume-making!\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003EBeing a typical boy who is especially fond of heroes, L wanted to go as Percy Jackson, but was quickly reminded by Ch that he has not even read a single book of Rick Riordan.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003ESo he chose his next favorite book character - Max of Sea Quest by Adam Blade. Max is the main hero of the Sea Quest series who has a brilliant understanding of technology. Saved by a rare mythical sea girl (Merryn), she gave Max two gill-like openings to enable him to breathe under water. He wears a blue dive suit, with a pair of infrared goggles on his head, and a curved hyperblade that is pure vernium and cuts through anything. The hero rides on the Lightning Aquabike for his sea adventures to fight monsters like Cephalox the Cyber Squid and Skalda the Soul Stealer.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003EUnfortunately, L came to me with his costume request at the wrong time. I was busy preparing dinner, and frustrations built up while he made me listen to his wonderful costume idea. He badly wanted my help, and started whining when I did not stop my cooking to help with the costume-making like I had done so in the past (see my posts on DIY \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/simplylambchops.blogspot.sg\/2012\/10\/homemade-hawkeye-costume.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EHawkeye costume\u003C\/a\u003E and other costumes \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/simplylambchops.blogspot.sg\/2014\/10\/homemade-minion-costume-for-girls.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E, \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/simplylambchops.blogspot.sg\/2014\/09\/homemade-spiderman-costume-for-girls.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/simplylambchops.blogspot.sg\/2014\/09\/we-love-home-projects-and-costume.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003EThe other frustrating part was that I could not get a large image of Max that is clear enough for me to see the unique features of his costume. I helped him cut out the shapes and we used masking tape to create the straps on Max's blue suit.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"\u003ETo make the shoulder pads, wrist guards and knee pads, we made do with brown felt and strong double-sided tape as I didn't have enough leather-like material. I secretly rejoiced with that choice as she has never really been the princessy type anyway. Ch wanted a yellow beanie with DIY goggles made out of toilet paper rolls, matched with a yellow top and a blue overall. But boy! It was really difficult to find a bright yellow beanie! And I'll be stuck with another costume in the cupboard after the kids have outgrown their superhero-crazy phase. My actual total damage for this homemade version was less than $10 including unlimited joy of making it. And it's a NO-SEW tutu! How's that as a time-saver!! To make this, I used an elastic band and measured around Ch's waist. I know that some parents may find it a bother to complete such home projects as the product is, most of the time, completed by the adult more than by the child. There could also be a couple of parents who probably can't even draw a proper outline of a fish. For them, the only consolation I can offer is that the quality of your product \u003Ci\u003Ereally\u003C\/i\u003E does not matter. I agree that a nicely done costume makes the child happy and excited in wearing it. Who wouldn't?
