My skin has always been on the dry side since I was a teen - dry and sometimes scaly, due to mild sensitivity to I-dunno-what. The skin condition is made worse when I sleep in an air-conditioned room for long periods or when I crochet. My fingernails are never painted as that would draw unnecessary attention to the dry cuticles and skin around each finger. Unfortunately, my three kids share the same trait as me in varying degrees of the problem.
Naturally, I seek consolation in skincare products that promise to help. Here's a secret to share with you - I have been using QueenBEE's Royal Jelly Balm and I'm starting to see results. Balms are the last thing I would have grabbed to moisturise my skin as I have always thought of them as too oily and would leave a sticky feel on my skin. Surprisingly, I was wrong!
The story of QueenBEE Secrets
In 1992, Diane Elliot decided that there had to be a more natural way of caring for herself and her family after suffering a serious illness. Her discovery journey led her to study Aromatherapy and to work with her on-farm bee hives to develop a unique range of natural healing skin balms. These balms are FREE of harsh chemicals, synthetics and parabens and are made of all-Australian botanicals, organic beeswax and royal jelly. There are 11 different balms to suit the whole family and Ch and I checked out three of them. And look at the packaging! The small metal tins are irresistibly cute!A note about Royal Jelly
Royal Jelly is a nutritional substance produced by worker bees to feed the Queen Bee and is extremely high in elements required for a healthy skin: 10 amino acids, 16 minerals, 18 enzymes, 16 vitamins (including Vit. A, D, E, C, K and B complex), Pantothenic acid which helps in cell renewal and stimulates the healing of wounds, and trace elements of Rutin and a gelatin substance that helps stimulate collagen production.Rapid BEE Repair - Pure Healing Balm ($29) |
What it does: This healing balm hydrates and soothe irritated, dry, scaly skin, reduces redness, relieves cracked heels, repairs fingernails, relieves scar tissues, smooths flaky chapped skin and revitalises skin texture.
The natural fragrance from the lavender essential oil gives a soothing and calming effect when inhaled. That is also why it is a good healing balm to repair your skin.
BEE Pure - Manuka Body Balm ($44) |
What it does: Suitable for those with super sensitive skin, this balm is a rich body moisturiser, relieves sensitive dry skin, repairs cuticles and relieves cracks. It's a nut-free balm.
I love the smell of the Manuka Honey in this balm. If you are wondering whether you will be a walking around as if you have just dropped into a honey pot, don't worry. The honey smell does not linger for long.
Bush BEE - Bug Balm ($29) |
What it does: A natural protection against bugs, this balm soothes irritated, itchy skin due to bug bites, soothes redness and relieves stings, protects minor skin abrasions and helps ward off bugs. This balm is also nut-free.
My family had some sandfly bites from our recent vacation. You know how potent sandfly bites are, ya? The bites turn red after one day and might blister. Worst thing is, they itch so much too! Thankfully this balm has been very useful in relieving the itch!
How to use QueenBEE Secret balms?
Less is more! Learn to use balms the right way to maximise their efficacy!- A spatula is needed in every tin. Use the end of the spatula to scrape a pea-sized amount of balm. (See above picture of BEE Pure)
- Soften balm between fingertips and apply very sparingly to the skin. As the balm warms, it spreads further.
- Smear softened balm onto your skin and allow it to penetrate for 1-2 minutes. DO NOT MASSAGE. If you find the balm has not penetrated within 5 minutes, it means that you have used too much. Simply wipe off the excess and apply elsewhere. (Don't waste it!)
- For best results, use the balm very sparingly but repeat the application a few times per day, depending on the severity of the skin condition.
