10 Dec 2008 - Ch participated in her dance centre's performance held at Victoria Concert Hall. This was her virgin performance, and she was supposed to be one of the red apples of Snow White. Through this performance, she experienced many firsts:
- first time being alone without mommy and daddy for two whole days
- first time taking a school bus
- first time dozing off on a friend's shoulder (her dance teacher took a video of the whole process- from the nodding of head to the soft landing on her friend's shoulder)
- first time tying her hair into a little bun
Initially, I was rather worried that she would be overtired, or that she would miss us and start crying. Or that she would not be able to tell an adult that she needed to relieve herself (The management of the dance centre did not allow all parents to accompany their children during the rehearsals at VCH, except for parent volunteers.). After the full dress rehearsal which took 8 hours, I thought that she would ask to withdraw from the performance. But though she was a little unwilling to leave us to board the bus to VCH for the performance on the 10th, she rose to the occasion and persevered to the end.
My helper even commented that Ch was very brave, considering that she has not even gone to playschool or nursery.
Mommy loves you, Ch!
Ch was in her arty creative mood two days ago, so I suggested finger painting. This is something she enjoys but we rarely do it as I'm so busy with L and other stuff. So, that morning when my MIL kindly helped to bathe L, I stole the chance to paint with her.
When I asked her what she had drawn, she replied as-a-matter-of-factly
"Hippopotamus...
"Hippopotamus...
but you can't see the hippo because it is hiding!"
LOL!!
Finally have some time to update my blog. It has been a hectic and stressful month, but fortunately, life seems to be more peaceful now. Perhaps coz we are more aware of L's needs and wants, and have more or less a system of handling both kids.
Many people have asked how Ch responds to her little bro. I must say that she's very nice to him. Of course, we do sense a little jealousy, but it only shows up occasionally. At least, she is very careful and loving towards L. She loves stroking his cheeks, arms, and kissing him. Sometimes, when visitors come, she'll even tell them to speak softly when L is asleep.
Love the photo above. It's now the wallpaper on my mobile *grin*
This is L. He was so hungry while waiting for me to get ready, that he conveniently found the corner of Ch's pillow and latched on!
Ch was bottle feeding her yellow duck while surfing the internet in this photo. I guess she must be imitating me!
"Hello everyone!" says L. This is the latest photo of L. Now, he has baby acne and rash probably due to heat on his face and body. Everyday, I have to apply moisturizer on his face, if not his skin will be so dry and flaky. Reminds me of an ex-colleague of mine who has terrible eczema condition.
Some updates abt L: His jaundice level went up. It was at 166 on Sat, when L was 3 days old. Over the few days, his body became more yellow, and he was sleepier. We decided to bring him to the polyclinic for a review yesterday though his scheduled appointment is supposed to be today (thank God we made that decision, if not consequences would be more drastic).
From the blood test at the polyclinic, L's jaundice level has increased to 326. Considered high for a Day 7 baby. He had to be admitted to the hospital immediately. We rushed him to KKH Children's emergency and got him admitted. I whispered a little prayer near his ear on the journey to let him know that God will give him strength. Poor L. He only had about 20mins of nursing time at the polyclinic. By the time he was admitted at KKH, he was probably hungry for more than an hr. The nurses stripped him of his clothes. Naked, he kept crying and screaming loudly. ZY and I heard him loud and clear when we stood outside the nursery. He was given photo therapy (exposed to UV light) immediately, for 6 hrs.
During this whole time, close friends sent their concerns through SMS. Thank you, all of you for the comforting words and prayers. They kept me strong
However, at around 3am this morning, I received a call from the doc. Bad news. Despite being given the photo therapy, L's jaundice level still increased- to 344 now. Dangerous level. We had to go to the hospital immediately to sign a consent form for him to receive blood transfusion if the condition worsens (jaundice can cause brain damage in infants).
Again, we rushed down. Could see that ZY was anxious to get there as fast as possible, as he beat 2 traffic lights. L was transferred to the Special Care Unit where he received intense photo therapy now. When we reached, we saw him lying peacefully receiving the uv light. He is a strong boy, withstanding all these (not being able to see, alone, cold, not being cuddled, strange sounds etc) happening to him. The doc explained all the procedures they'll take, risks and side effects of blood transfusion (like getting diseases from donor blood, infections etc) and got me to sign the form. I hesitated, coz the consequences may be very serious if anything went wrong.
After waiting for close to an hr for his 2nd blood test results, we received good news! Thank God for that! The bilirubin in his body has decreased due to the intense light therapy! It's now at 286. No need for any blood transfusion for the time being!
He is now still being closely monitored. Receiving intense photo therapy in the Special Care Unit. We're waiting for the doc's call to tell us of his latest blood test result.
