This short conversation took place a while ago when ZY carried Ch.

ZY: Charlene, have you grown taller?
Ch: No, I am still short enough.
ZY: Are you sure? Have you grown taller?
Ch: I am still short enough. My hair has grown longer.
ZY: Yes, but are you taller now?
Ch: Er.. no... yes.. no...
Ch: I am taller now... because you carry me!

LOL!!!!

A church friend (Zelda) gave me this idea of getting Ch to "type" a blog entry here. Haha... What a great suggestion! So, I gave Ch the laptop and told her to type something... also got her to find letters of the alphabet (starting from A, then B and so on) using the keyboard, though she didn't do very well at identifying some letters. Then she got bored and started tapping on the keypad randomly.

We had a complimentary voucher for a one night stay at Hotel Intercontinental on the 29th June this year.

A funny incident happened that day. We celebrated the NCC day so all the NCC teachers and cadets had to wear our NCC uniforms. As I didn't have time to change out of the uniform, I wore it to the hotel. Though we checked in around 3pm (official check-in time was 2pm), the lady at the reception told us that our room was not ready, and that we had to wait for about 45min! However, after waiting for more than 45min, we were still not given our room! I got irritated and went to "confront" the staff at the reception desk, giving my explanations but politely requested for late check-out (which they rejected initially as they said that the hotel was fully booked the next day). The lady that I spoke to referred me to her manager and I was made to repeat my story right from the beginning. To cut the story short, the manager kindly agreed to the late check-out request and apologised for their service. We were given our room promptly and the lady (whom I complained to) even brought us up to our room.

Okie, the thing that tickled me happened here. The lady tried to create some small talk by asking if I worked for the SAF (since I was still wearing my no.3). I laughed and said no, I'm just a teacher in charge of NCC. She heaved a sigh of relief and said "oh, I was wondering how to handle you!" She must have thought that I was some demanding and stern lieutenant when I went up to complain to her!!

Overall, the stay was pleasant and relaxing. Ch loved the room. She explored the room from one end to the other end a few times when we went in. Didn't even spare the toilet! She also kept going to the window which faces the pool. When we asked her what she wanted to do, she only had one answer- go SHOPPING!

We celebrated our nation's birthday on 9th August. Though we didn't have any tickets for the NDP, we made it a point to wear red on that day. Charlene and I even put on tattoo stickers on our arms. See hers? It reads "Made in Singapore".



In the evening, we tuned in to the live telecast of the National Day Parade, and Ch saw the people waving the flag. I immediately took out ours (which we got last year in our goodie bag from the NDP), and she started waving it excitedly together with the people from the screen!

Then, when the National anthem was sung, she took a spoon and pretended it was a microphone... and started singing along too! What a proud and loyal Singaporean she is!

I feel so lousy.

I spanked Ch today. And shouted at her.

I did an action that shocked me too... I held her shoulders and shook her hard while scolding her.

All these happened as she behaved badly today. And it didn't happen just once or twice. It went on almost the whole day today.

It started when we brought her to a nearby coffeeshop for breakfast. She wanted me to carry her though I had to buy food. I left her with ZY and asked him to feed her breakfast. She ended up crying for me and refusing her daddy to feed her. We tried to explain the situation and after some time, she stopped.

Then nearing the end of our breakfast, she started fussing and kept whining and asking me to carry her. Trying to be patient and not create a scene, I told her to keep quiet but promised to carry her once I was done with my breakfast. She carried on. I ended up having to punish her when we reached home.

Back home, I had to mete out the punishment stated. It was time out for her at our "punishment door". Of course, she wailed loudly the whole time. This got ZY very angry too. After the episode ended, I explained the rationale for punishing her and she agreed to behave herself. She also apologised and we hugged each other.

Everything went on well after that. But the whole thing repeated again during her bath. She refused to turn off the water tap and cried loudly. This time round, it was louder and lasted longer. In the end, she was back at the punishment door.

Even when we went to Jurong Point after dinner, she threw tantrums quite a few times when we stopped her from doing some things.

The last incident happened after she went to bed. She's having a cough and runny nose today, so she woke up coughing after sleeping for an hour. She coughed persistently and started to cry. Then, she vomited and dirtied the floor and my clothes. I had to quickly change and bathe her before putting her to bed again. But she kept on crying and insisting on going to bed with her dirty clothes. This was the last straw. I lost my cool and started shouting at her, while shaking her small petite body.

I feel so lousy now. How could I have done such a thing to her?

Charlene, if you are reading this, Mommy is very sorry ya? It really breaks my heart to have to discipline you. But I'm just so irritated by your cries. And if I don't discipline you and stop you from throwing tantrums, I'm just so afraid that you'll turn out to be like some irritating students I have in school.


~ Update | June 5, 2014 | Now that I'm a mom of 3 kids, I have learnt so many parenting strategies through my own experience and from friends. Reading this post 7 years later makes me realise that I have indeed grown more mature and wiser as a mom.
