Ever since the ibook I used (from school) died on me last Nov, I've been a computer migrant. Used ZY's Macbook, then the old Acer from school, and finally another Acer from my colleague, T. Contemplated buying a Mac, but it'll be incompatible with MOE's intranet coz a VPN token is necessary to log into the intranet (unfortunately the software doesn't run on Mac). But I just can't go back to using a PC as Mac is really so user-friendly.
So... this post is typed on my new toy... the new MacBook! With the help of my colleague, T, who went to the IT show with her hubby, J (thanks for carrying the stuff back!), I got my MacBook at an attractive price!
Finally, I'm no more a squatter in ZY's MacBook!
Today, after expressing my breastmilk, I was at the "pantry" as usual, washing all the parts of the hand pump. Our pantry is actually just a big sink with a water dispenser at a corner of the staffroom. So whenever I wash the parts (am using the Ameda pump), people walking past tend to stop and "stare" coz it's at such a strategic location.
So, today while washing the pumps, a pretty old adjunct teacher (note: 'pretty' as in 'quite', not 'beautiful') whose table is near the sink, observed what I was doing. The conversation began (I tried to recall the exact words, but some may differ).
Tr: Oh, what are you washing? They're so small and cute-looking.
Me: Milk bottles.
Tr: Ooh, so you reuse the bottles that came with the milk?
Me: No, er.. well I'm lactating. So I use these to express my milk to give to my baby.
Tr (nodded her head): Oh, the bottles are so cute and small. Did you empty the milk and reuse the bottle?
Me: No, these are for me to express my milk.
She appeared to understand what I said. But after a pause...
Tr: Did you say the name was "Express"??
Me (thinking that she wanted to know what I use the bottles for): Yes.
Tr: Hmm.......... I must try.
I tried so hard to contain my laughter while washing the rest of the pump. But when I walked to my table, I burst out laughing and told other colleagues about it. Everyone had a good laugh. This poor old adjunct teacher must have thought that the brand of milk I bought is called "Express" and that it comes in this small cute plastic bottle!!!!!!!

Have gone back to work since 30 Jan '09. Life with 2 kids is fulfilling but definitely energy-zapping. In school, I have to handle 140 students, mark their assignments, plan lessons, manage their discipline etc. At home, I have to spend time talking to Ch, and playing with L. On most days, though I still bring work home to complete, I seldom get a chance to do that unless I sacrifice my sleep at nite. Now I try to stay in school till about 6:30pm, or even later if I know that ZY will come home late, to complete my work. Not a very healthy lifestyle, but I'm still trying to cope. Hopefully this is only temporary.
At least now when I miss Ch and L, I have their photos in the staffroom to cheer me up.
Now, the board next to my table in the staffroom looks like this. See all the photos I have?
